A New Iberia resident with alleged ties to a group that plotted a New Year's Eve bombing in California has been arrested and accused of planning an attack in New Orleans.
Micah James Legnon is charged with threats in interstate commerce, meaning law enforcement does not have enough evidence yet to charge him with being involved in the California attack allegedly planned by the "Turtle Island Liberation Front" group. The FBI announced Monday it had thwarted the plot.

Douglas Holtz-Eakin probably isn’t sitting at the popular table of today’s Washington Republicans because he worked for President George W. Bush two decades ago.
In 2001-02 he was the chief economist of Bush’s Council of Economic Advisers, and from 2003-05 he was director of the Congressional Budget Office. He also was the chief economic policy adviser for Sen. John McCain’s 2008 presidential campaign, which further excludes him from influence with President Trump’s people.

It’s that time of year when we contemplate the miraculous birth of Jesus Christ. After thousands of years struggling in the darkness, man gets to come face to face with his maker, who takes on flesh. You know the rest of the story. Unspeakable tragedy followed by unspeakable joy.
Before I decide to write my Christmas column, I like to review some of the ones from the past. Usually, I decide to write something new. But this time, this column from 2008 — 17 years ago — caught my eye. It is as follows:

A thoughtful column on the Mississippi Today website laid out a couple of education ideas that have nothing to do with the pending school choice proposal that would allow families, with state assistance, to enroll their children in whatever school they wish.
Bradley Roberson, superintendent of the Oxford School District, wrote that a state lawmaker challenged him: “If not school choice, then what?” Roberson has a couple of good ideas worth considering. Anything like them would transform education in Mississippi.

Cliff Notes began as short plot summaries of classic novels and stories. Now they are cribs about complex topics and spin. Corps Speak is the US Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) clever spin that evades responsibility for higher and longer Mississippi River floods (a complex topic).
This story began when Congress put the Corps in charge of flood control (1928 Flood Control Act) to prevent another 1927 flood disaster.
