A man was rescued Friday after becoming stuck in river silt near the Madison Parish Port, according to Madison Parish Sheriff Chad Ezell.
Sheriff Ezell said Madison Parish 911 received a call on Dec. 12 from a man who reported he was stuck in the mud and sinking near the Madison Parish Port. Madison Parish deputies and emergency medical services were dispatched.
Workers at the port were already attempting to reach the man when deputies and EMS arrived. Ezell and several deputies boarded a tugboat to attempt to reach him. While they were en route, port workers were able to get a rope to the man and pull him out of the river silt.
The man was identified as Jason Sutton of Texas. Ezell said Sutton had been traveling down the Mississippi River and had stopped his sailboat in a chute off the main channel. After getting off the sailboat, Sutton sank ankle deep in the mud and was unable to get out.
Sutton was checked by EMS and made arrangements to return to his sailboat, Ezell said.
