David Keary, CEO and Executive Artistic Director of Ballet Mississippi, brings The Nutcracker to life each year for Mississippians who come from all over to enjoy the classic production.
Music critics wrote scathing reviews after the premiere performance of The Nutcracker in St. Petersburg, Russia, in 1892. The ballet, a worldwide Christmas tradition for millions today, could have ended up in the dustbin of history if those original critics had had their way.

Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company, xAI, has purchased a new building in Southaven to boost its computing power.
This is the tech company’s latest expansion into Mississippi. The property at 2400 Stateline Road is a short drive from xAI’s natural gas power plant that the company bought in July 2025. The former Duke Power plant will power xAI’s two data centers across the state line in Memphis.
According to property records, MZX Tech, an LLC associated with xAI, purchased the property on Dec. 23.

Tameshia Williams, a single mom of four in Jackson who works as an elder aide, was kicked off Mississippi’s food stamp program in October despite being eligible. She says she was not informed of an upcoming appointment in the mail until after the appointment passed – a reality she worries will be the new normal for many families now that the federal government mandated more red tape for the program.

Delvin Francisco Rodriguez, a 39-year old Nicaraguan man being detained by immigration authorities, has died in a Natchez, Mississippi hospital.
In the months leading up to his death on Dec. 14, Rodriguez had been held in the Adams County Correctional Center, which is run by Core Civic Inc.

For much of Thursday night’s Sugar Bowl showdown with Georgia, it looked as if Ole Miss’ dream football season was careening toward a rude wake-up call.
Luckily for Rebel fans, Trinidad Chambliss found the snooze button.
The Ole Miss quarterback put together a performance for the ages, passing for 362 yards and two touchdowns to rally his team to a stunning 39-34 win over the SEC Champion Bulldogs.

The No. 6 Ole Miss Rebels have punched their ticket to the College Football Playoff Semifinals after taking down No. 3 Georgia 39-34, Thursday night in the Allstate Sugar Bowl.
The Rebels (13-1) erased a nine-point halftime deficit, orchestrating one of the more dramatic second half comebacks in recent CFP history. Until now, Georgia had won 53 straight games when leading at the half, which was the longest active streak in the FBS, and 75 straight wins when leading after three quarters.
