Sportswear leader Nike has announced the company is laying off approximately 775 employees at distribution centers in Mississippi and Tennessee.
It is unclear how the layoffs will impact the centers in Byhalia, Southaven and Memphis.
The cuts follow nearly 1,000 corporate jobs Nike slashed during the summer of 2025.

Ever since the National Flood Insurance Program was created in 1968, the federal program has struggled to find the sweet spot of how much to charge for the coverage. And that cost affects those seeking to purchase land and build in Tate County.
If premiums are too low, the taxpayers, including those who don’t live in flood-prone areas, make up the difference when a hurricane or other major natural disaster hits and the cost of claims exceeds what NFIP has in reserve.

Mississippi environmental officials will hold a hearing Feb. 17 where members of the public can comment on a proposed permit to run 41 new turbines at xAI’s facility in Southaven.

The Mississippi Development Authority announced Tuesday that Siemens Energy is investing up to $300 million and creating up to 300 new advanced manufacturing jobs through an expansion in Rankin County.
The move is part of the company’s $1 billion investment in its U.S. manufacturing operations.

An adopted amendment to the bill added the ability for the public to remove members through a recall vote.
A bill that would require all school boards members to be elected in the state of Mississippi passed out of the House Education committee on Thursday. It was also amended to include a recall process for board members if the electorate decides the process is needed.

One measure would extend the validity of medical cannabis cards while another would create the “Right to Try Medical Cannabis Act.”
Two bills related to Mississippi’s medical cannabis program passed in the House of Representatives this week.
One bill extends the timeframe for a patient’s follow-up visit to keep their medical cannabis card valid, while a second bill creates a system where patients suffering from debilitating or terminal conditions not already on the state’s list of approved conditions can petition to try medical cannabis.

The Northwest Mississippi Community College Foundation is proud to announce that Senatobia attorney, John T. Lamar Jr., will be honored with the Spirit of Northwest Award at the Northwest Soiree - A Garden Gala on April 18, 2026 at the Heindl Center for the Performing Arts.
A football alumnus of the college who enrolled as a freshman in 1970, played and studied at the college for two years. During his sophomore year, he married his wife and fellow attorney, Ann Hannaford Lamar.
