When the U.S. Supreme Court ruled last month that President Donald Trump’s global tariffs were unconstitutional, one of the dissenting justices, Brett Kavanaugh, predicted that the process of issuing refunds would be a mess.
He will only be right about that if the government overcomplicates things.
The solution should be simple. Those who directly paid the illegal tariffs — manufacturers, retailers and logistics companies — should get the refunds. Those companies can then decide whether to pass those refunds onto their customers.

When state Rep. Becky Currie was tabbed to lead the House committee that oversees Mississippi’s prison system, she was given a mandate to shake things up.
She has been trying.
In 2025, she introduced a comprehensive bill that put a basket of reforms into one piece of legislation. It cleared her chamber unanimously but died during negotiations with the Senate.
This year, she took a different approach, writing most of the reforms into separate bills. So far, that strategy hasn’t fared much better with the Senate.
But Currie has not given up.

Debris piles throughout the City of Grenada will remain curbside after the City Council failed to secure a debris removal and monitoring company or set new spending caps for the work.
Debris will continue to pile up curbside after the Grenada City Council received no bids to complete storm debris removal and monitoring services during a Zoom meeting Tuesday afternoon, March 17.
City Manager Dr. Trina George informed Councilmembers that the city had not received any responses to its requests for proposals (RFPs) for the work. The Council then voted to officially close the RFP process and instead declare emergency procurement, allowing Dr. George to directly solicit quotes and negotiate contracts for debris removal and monitoring services.

Below is a political opinion column by David McRae:
Fair access to banking is not a partisan issue. It is a matter of economic freedom, and that is something worth protecting—in Washington and Jackson alike.
Access to fair banking isn’t a luxury, it’s the price of entry in the modern economy. Whether you’re a small business owner, a nonprofit, a farmer, or simply a working family, you cannot function without fair, reliable access to financial services. That’s why the Fair Banking Standard Act is so important.
