Oxford does not ease into Christmas. It makes a complete entrance—coat on, lights up, carols playing, the whole deal.
There are a lot of places to enjoy the holidays in Mississippi, but Oxford has always been my place. I don’t mean that casually—I mean “load up the boys, grab a Sonic drink for the road, and head toward the Square with the kind of excitement usually reserved for Christmas morning.”

The Senatobia Home and Garden Club met recently at the home of Linda Brewer. Linda’s co-hostesses were Angie Stuart and Becky Alexander.
Linda’s home was beautifully decorated for the fall season.
Angie gave a devotion entitled: “Just some thoughts from Dad”, which was very inspiring . A delicious meal was served followed by homemade desserts.
Our program speaker was Candy Cowan. Her program was entitled, “Keepsake Creations”.

Ole Miss Athletics has announced that their kick off for the 2026 football season will send the Rebels to play Louisville in a neutral-site game in Nashville.
The game is set for Labor Day weekend (Sept. 5 or 6) at Nissan Stadium, and exact date, kick time and television network will be finalized at a later date.
It will mark the second meeting between the Rebels and Cardinals with the other also being a season-opening, neutral-site game. Ole Miss defeated Louisville 43-24 in the 2021 Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game.

For decades, robocalls have plagued Mississippians as technology continues to evolve.
A nationwide effort has been underway to crack down on these annoying cold calls that not only disturb your peace and quiet but often work to steal personal information for illegal purposes.
Mississippi Attorney Lynn Fitch (R) announced this week that the second phase of the national Operation Robocall Roundup is now underway. Her office is working in conjunction with 50 other attorneys general to protect people’s privacy.

The 2025 Mississippi-Alabama All-Star Football Game will be played at 12 Noon on Saturday, December 13 at M.M. Roberts Stadium – “The Rock” – on the campus of the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg.
Mississippi’s team features standout MHSAA players from the Coast to Corinth. See the roster above for the All-Stars playing in the annual matchup.

DeSoto County District Attorney Matthew Barton has launched an anti-crime campaign aimed at deterring people from committing crime in the north Mississippi area, specifically targeting would be criminals from Memphis, who he says contribute to more than 30 percent of felonies in DeSoto County.

Efforts to restore American energy dominance is starting in the Gulf of America, the Trump administration said Wednesday.
The Department of the Interior announced that the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management successfully conducted the first or thirty mandatory offshore oil and gas lease sale required under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. The goal is to accelerate fossil fuel production and put the U.S. in a position to be more self-reliant amid its global competitors.

U.S. District Judge Kristi Johnson has sentenced former Canton Municipal Utilities engineer Rudy Warnock to 12 years in prison for charges related to bribery and wire fraud.
Warnock was indicted by a federal grand jury in December 2021 alleging at the time that Warnock directed cash payments in the thousands of dollars as well as event tickets to concerts and football games to former Canton Aldermen Andrew Grant and Eric Gilkey and Canton Municipal Utilities Commissioner Cleve Anderson in exchange for lucrative government contracts.

Mississippi’s multi-million-dollar corporate investment wins just keep piling up.
The Mississippi Development Authority announced Thursday that TerraForge Biocarbon Solutions, a metallurgical biocarbon manufacturer, is locating operations in Magnolia.
The company is investing over $100 million in the Pike County project that is expected to create 36 jobs.

It’s not Christmas at my house until you put up the tree. The big living room with tall ceiling out at Strayhorn Heights that is perfect for our tree.
Yes, we’ve made the transition to an artificial tree. I was told it is cleaner, not a fire hazard and decorations go on it more evenly, by the Chief Cleaner/Fire Marshal/Home Decorator at my house.
But yearning for a real Christmas tree, that smells of cedar, is inherited. The toys of my childhood were always found under a real tree.

Senatobia and Tate County first responders are preparing for a yearly holiday tradition to give back to needy families in the community.
The 6th annual “Shop with a Hero” event takes place Thursday, Dec. 11, and pairs local children with law enforcement, firefighters and other emergency personnel for a special shopping trip.
The event takes place from 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m., when heroes partake in the spirit of Christmas at Walmart in Senatobia and the Heindl Center for the Performing Arts on the Northwest Mississippi Community College campus.

The Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) has released results for the spring 2025 statewide administration of the ACT.
Mississippi is one of 16 states that administers the ACT free to high school juniors.
The average statewide composite score for 30,070 juniors was 17.5, a slight increase of the 2024 average score of 17.4. Previous years’ average scores were 17.5 in 2023 and 17.4 in 2022. The percentage of juniors meeting the benchmark scores for all four tested ACT subjects in 2025 was 9.5%, an increase from 8.8% in 2024.

In a rare show of bipartisan cooperation, Mississippi’s congressional delegation has sent a letter to U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer with concerns that new regulations implemented by the European Union will harm the state’s forestry industry.
The delegation wrote that the E.U. regulations “introduce substantial uncertainty” for the forestry industry and risk “further depressing already strained log and wood-product markets, harming rural communities that depend on healthy, functioning timber economies.”

There was never a doubt on Monday night at Howard Coliseum as the Northwest Mississippi Community College women's basketball team improved to 8-4 thanks to an impressive 72-58 win in their final game going into the break, taking down Holmes Community College (6-3) thanks to big nights from Alorian Story and Dekyra Mitchell.
