SENATOBIA – A good start for the Rangers turned into a sweep on Wednesday over the East Mississippi Community College Lions (11-22, 5-5) as Northwest Mississippi Community College (19-10, 6-2) moved up to a tie with #4 Jones College for the second spot in the MACCC standings, winning game one with a 16-6 run rule victory before rallying from down 4-3 to take the second game 6-4.
The Rangers extended their winning streak to four games in the process, matching their longest winning streak of the season to this point.

Steve Knight became the head men’s basketball coach at William Carey College way back in July of 1982 at the age of 25.
That same month, Jimmy Connors beat John McEnroe for the Wimbledon championship. Tom Watson, now 76, won golf’s Open Championship at Royal Troon, Scotland. William Winter was Mississippi’s governor. More Mississippi children could face prison time under proposed legislation that state law enforcement officials, including Attorney General Lynn Fitch, say is aimed at quashing statewide gang violence.
Senate Bill 2710 and House Bill 1165 would lead to harsher punishment for an unknown number of children in the state by creating new avenues for prosecutors to charge minors as adults.

Discussion of ensuring public school districts were up to date on their required audits ramped up late last year when the Mississippi Department of Education took over the Okolona School District citing financial concerns.

The Senatobia Culture Club held their March meeting at the Senatobia Presbyterian Church.
Eleven members, two guests of Martha Goodwin, her mother and father, George and Louise Land and a former member of Culture Club, Donna Holt were in attendance. Martha, the hostess, welcomed all guests and gave a devotional on the love of music and how it affects our lives as it is a gift to us, a blessing God has given us.

FORREST COUNTY — The family of Ayden Stockstill is visiting counties across Mississippi urging local leaders to support legislation that would allow sheriffs and deputies to use radar guns to enforce speed limits.

Though school choice talks have stalled this session, bills regarding a state tax program that incentivizes Mississippians to donate to private schools have now passed both chambers of the Legislature and head to final negotiations.
Since 2020, private schools and foster care organizations have been receiving money through the Children’s Promise Act, which gives donors a dollar-for-dollar tax credits for up to 50% of the donor’s state tax liability.

Decades before Tate County Genealogical & Historical Society, Inc. was formed, the White Men and Women were honored for their service in WWII in a book of photographs with brief bios of their military service compiled into a book.
TCGHS would like to do the same for the Black Men and Women who served in this conflict in belated appreciation for their service. We would put this information in book form to add to our library. To do that, we need the help of those servicemen and women still alive or their family members.
