The Grenada City Council voted during a special-called meeting on Dec. 18, 2025, to move its regularly scheduled January 2026 meeting to a later date so members could attend the Mississippi Municipal League’s Mid-Winter Legislative Conference in Jackson.
The council voted to reschedule the meeting from 5 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 12, to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 15. The change will allow city officials to participate in the statewide municipal event, which runs from Jan. 13 through 15 in downtown Jackson.

Motorists are advised to use extreme caution in this area of Commerce and Van Dorn streets until utility work concludes.
Utility work at the corner of Commerce and Van Dorn streets continued Monday morning as crews with Entergy worked to secure the power pole located at the intersection. Orange traffic cones were used to slow and merge traffic traveling north on Commerce Street into one lane until work was completed. Crews also worked late into the night last Thursday evening digging around the site seeking solutions.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2025, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada for Mrs. Linda Carolyn Wilson Edwards, 80, of Grenada, who died on Friday, Nov. 28. Burial followed in Elliott Cemetery. The family received friends one hour prior to the service on Wednesday, Dec. 3, at McKibben and Guinn.

A service was held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2025, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada to honor Mr. Dane Harbin, 39, of Owens Cross Roads, Ala., who died on Saturday, Nov. 22. Burial with military honors followed in Oddfellows Cemetery in Grenada. His brother, Zack Harbin, officiated.

Jan. 10, beginning at 11 a.m. Teams from Clarksdale, Independence, Aberdeen, J.Z. George, Coffeeville and Grenada will compete.
The schedule for the day includes:
• 11 a.m. — Clarksdale vs. Independence (Girls)
• 12:30 p.m. — Clarksdale vs. Independence (Boys)
• 2 p.m. — Aberdeen vs. J.Z. George (Boys)
• 3:30 p.m. — Coffeeville vs. Grenada (Girls)
• 5 p.m. — Coffeeville vs. Grenada (Boys)
Admission will be $8.

The Grenada County Board of Supervisors met at the Grenada County Courthouse on Monday morning for the first time in 2026.
The initial Grenada County Board of Supervisors meeting for 2026 was held Monday morning at the Grenada County Courthouse. All five supervisors were present for the meeting.
Board attorney Jay Gore opened the meeting with prayer, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. The first item on the agenda was to approve the minutes of the December meetings.

Police are investigating a shooting that left multiple people injured on Saturday, Dec. 27, 2025, in Grenada.
Authorities said officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 800 block of Rayford Street, where three people were reportedly shot. The victims were taken to the University of Mississippi Medical Center-Grenada, where law enforcement officers remained later that afternoon as the investigation continued.

A Montgomery County family counted their blessings as the New Year was ushered in following an early morning fire that destroyed their home New Year’s Eve morning.
The family of five, including three boys — ages 14, 9 and 5 — lost everything as a result of the blaze, which occurred in the 2800 block of Mississippi Highway 404 East in Duck Hill.
Community members in both Montgomery and Grenada counties immediately began rallying together to assist the family with immediate as well as future needs.

Average gasoline prices in Mississippi have fallen 5.4 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $2.41/g today, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 2,014 stations in Mississippi. Prices in Mississippi are 13.8 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and stand 14.0 cents per gallon lower than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has decreased 4.3 cents compared to a week ago and stands at $3.575 per gallon.
