A graveside service was held Thursday, February 12, 2026 at Batesville Magnolia Cemetery in Batesville, Miss.
Pate-Jones Funeral Home had charge of the arrangements.

Asked to describe Jim Poole, his close friend of six decades, Archie Manning paused, pregnantly.
“I’m really struggling with Jim’s death,” he finally said.
After a few seconds of silence, Archie was back. “Jim was a rock,” he said. “He was solid – so smart and just utterly dependable. You always knew what you were going to get with Jim. You could always count on him. Nicest guy ever, as good a friend as I’ve ever had, as good a friend as anyone could ever hope to have.”

Mississippi environmental officials will hold a hearing Feb. 17 where members of the public can comment on a proposed permit to run 41 new turbines at xAI’s facility in Southaven.

WASHINGTON -- FEMA announced that federal disaster assistance is available to the state of Mississippi to supplement recovery efforts in the areas affected by the severe winter storm on January 23-27, 2026.
Federal funding is available to state, tribal and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by the severe winter storm for all Public Assistance categories, including direct federal assistance.

Ella Burford Darnell, 99, of Independence, Miss., passed away on Monday, February 2, 2026.
She loved bowling, wordsearch puzzles, scrabble and playing solitaire. Ella also enjoyed working in her garden.
She was a member of Independence Church of Christ.
Ella was preceded in death by her husband, James Howard Darnell; parents, Bernard and Lorraine Burford; sisters, Anna McCorkle, Elese Tidwell, and Ramona Smart, and brothers, James Burford, Leon Burford, and Joe Burford.

Senatobia officials are seeking a long-term solution for removing piles of leaves in front of residences in the city.
Some city workers spent Saturday, Jan. 10 – typically a day when the Senatobia Public Works Department is closed – rolling through various neighborhoods gathering leaves that have been sitting on curbs and edges for several weeks.
Stephen Hodges, director of operations for the city, told the Senatobia Board of Aldermen earlier this month, the leaf vac truck is unreliable and expensive to repair.

U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem landed in Tupelo on Monday to tour and assess winter storm damage in North Mississippi as FEMA, military leadership, first responders and linemen continue to work to recover from the ice storm that blanketed the area.
Secretary Noem joined Gov. Tate Reeves in Tupelo to recognize local and state first responders during multi-agency winter storm response efforts, including the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency, Mississippi National Guard, and Mississippi Department of Transportation.

Rebecca Dianne Scott of Independence transitioned from this life to heaven on January 25, 2026.
Visitation and funeral services will be Thursday, February 5, at Lifepoint Church in Senatobia, Miss. Visitation will take place from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., with funeral services beginning at 1 p.m.
Dianne was one of three children born to James Lewis and Jewell Ford Campbell of Memphis. Her parents and her two brothers, David and Bobby, whom she dearly loved, have welcomed her to heaven.

She served the public in a variety of settings throughout her career, but her favorite title was MawMaw.

State road crews rolled into Tate County Saturday and Sunday to help the community dig out from the week-long winter storm that has battered the state.
Snow plows pushed ice and drifts to the right-of-way in Senatobia and Tate County Saturday. State Highways were the first priority in both the city and county.
Sunday was quiet in Tate County and Senatobia as the Sun came out and people were busy clearing walkways to their home and running to stores to pickup needed items after more than six inches of sleet and brutally cold weather stopped most activity.

The Mississippi National Guard (MSNG) activated an additional 150 service members, bringing the total to 650 personnel, to conduct general support, fueling operations and aerial logistics packaging of food, water, medical and other needed supplies following a major winter storm that began Jan. 23.
National Guard units from Starkville were in Senatobia Friday on a reconnaissance mission to see and document damages and came by the Tate Record office seeking information and details on areas hardest hit.

Six inches of snow and freezing temperatures have made roads dangerous, knocked out power and delayed the collection of garbage in Tate County.
Residents are asked to be patient, follow a few tips
and help their neighbors by following a few tips that will speed up collection and help keep Tate County clean during this winter storm.
"Tate County garbage collection may resume Monday but two things will have to happen," Tate County officials said in a statement on Friday.

Governor Tate Reeves announced Wednesday night that the state of Mississippi continues to work with county, state, federal, and private sector partners to respond to the severe winter weather impacting the state. Tragically, six additional deaths have been reported since yesterday’s press release – one in Adams County, one in Jefferson County, one in Warren County, and three in Tate County. This brings the total to 10 statewide. 14 injuries have also been confirmed.
