The Madison High School Jaguars remain undefeated after a Friday-night home win over the Marksville Tigers.
The Jags never trailed in Friday's game, jumping out to a big, 21-7 lead in the first period. MHS gave up some ground in the second period, but led the Tigers 33-21 at halftime.
The Jaguars held on to a 10-point advantage heading into the final period with a 42-32 lead, before a strong fourth quarter cemented the 15-point, 64-49 victory.
MHS Head Coach John Holmes said his team played well in several facets of the game, but also saw areas the Jags can work to improve upon.
“They played hard and were kind of aggressive on the defensive end,” Holmes said. “We got a little complacent in the second half. We had some breakdowns on defense, but overall, we shot free throws well and that is what kind of gave us an edge.”
Holmes pointed to several players who had strong performances in Friday’s win.
“Corey Moore had a great game,” he said. “He finished baskets and closed out real well. Jeremiah Marshall and Nehemiah Jackson played well too. Nehemiah had a lot of blocked shots and he really controlled the paint.”
