The Madison Parish Police Jury re-elected its leadership during its Jan. 12 regular meeting at the Madison Parish Courthouse.
Jurors unanimously selected Jane G. Sanders as president, Johnny Hughes as vice president and Jerry Hicks as finance chairman. The jury also approved Margarett Dew to continue serving as secretary-treasurer, a staff position.
A representative of the parish’s sales tax collector, based in Concordia Parish, provided year-end collection totals and discussed how the office tracks compliance across jurisdictions.
The representative reported $15,000 in alcohol sales collections for the Madison Parish Police Jury in 2025. The report also listed $57,939.87 in police jury insurance premiums and $32,531.50 in occupational license collections.
For general sales tax collections, the representative said the year ended with $395,916.49 collected.
During discussion, jurors and a City of Tallulah representative raised questions about identifying new or unregistered businesses and how the collector’s office plans in-person outreach. The representative said the office has been contacting businesses by letters, phone and email and is preparing a 2026 schedule to be in each jurisdiction, including visiting businesses in person.
The representative said the office collects for multiple parishes and sends monthly reports to parish officials. The representative also outlined fees, stating the charge is 1% on general sales collections and 5% on occupational license collections, with other billed costs included on monthly statements.
