The Madison Parish School Board voted March 9 to merge Madison Middle School and Madison High School into one school serving grades six through 12 beginning with the 2026–2027 school year.
The action follows a Feb. 19 letter from the Louisiana Department of Education and State Superintendent Cade Brumley directing the district to merge the schools.
The majority vote took place during a special meeting at the Madison Parish School Board Training Center in Tallulah.
Superintendent Charlie Butler told board members the merger will place students under the administration and site code of Madison High School and will begin in the 2026-2027 school year.
Butler said middle school students will remain in the current middle school building because the high school does not have room to house both schools.
The merger will place middle school students under the high school letter grade, which is currently a B. Butler said the change will completely remove the middle school’s separate letter grade under the state accountability system.
The board voted to approve the merger and to adopt the contents of the Feb. 19 letter from the Louisiana Department of Education into the meeting record.
