Madison High School has named Sean Archer as its new head football coach, Principal Perry Revels announced.
Athletic Director John Holmes said the selection followed an internal hiring process due to a district hiring freeze. Two applicants from within the district applied for the position before Archer was chosen.
Archer previously served as head football coach at Madison Middle School, where he led the team to an undefeated season.
He is a native of Port Gibson, Mississippi, and has taught at Vicksburg High School. Archer is a graduate of Alcorn State University, where he played football.
Revels said the school expects progress from the program under Archer and the current staff.
“We are very impressed and ready to show the talents of our student athletes, as well as that of our coaching staff,” Revels said.
Archer said he is ready to take over the program.
“I’m very pleased to be a part of this Jaguar nation,” Archer said.
School officials said Archer’s experience within the district and familiarity with local players were factors in the decision.
Madison High is scheduled to release its football schedule, with homecoming set for Oct. 2 against Beekman Charter.
