Two scholarship opportunities are available for high school seniors in Madison Parish, with application deadlines set in March and April.
The Madison Grambling State University Alumni Chapter Association is offering a $1,000 scholarship to a student who has maintained a grade point average of 2.5 or higher and has shown leadership and social skills in high school and the community. Applicants must submit an official transcript in a sealed envelope with a signature on the back, three letters of reference from church, school or community sources, and a biography that outlines goals, need for assistance, school activities and reasons for choosing Grambling State University. Supporting documents such as certificates, honors and awards may also be included.
The application was due March 6, with an extended deadline of March 27. Applications should be returned to Calvin Washington at 113 West Oughbourne Street in Tallulah. For more information, call 318-574-4895.
The Madison Parish Retired Teachers Club is offering a $550 scholarship to a high school senior entering the field of education at a college or university. Applicants must include a seventh-semester transcript and ACT scores. The application must be signed by a school counselor and principal.
Applicants for the Retired Teachers Club scholarship must also submit a 300- to 500-word essay explaining why they want to become a teacher or pursue another field in education. The application deadline is April 14.
