The Madison High School Jaguars are taking its 2023 season in stride after extreme highs and lows, with not much in between in 2023.
The Jaguars began the season 3-0 under the first year of returning head coach Levi Washington Jr., before losing quarterback Jaquarrius "Deuce" Bolden for the year to a leg injury.
Despite strong offensive play from running back Jaydon Larry, receiver-turned-quarterback Amarion White and a number of other standouts, the Jags went 0-7 after Bolden’s injury, finishing the season 3-7 and 0-6 in 3A, District 2.
Despite the tough run to close out the season, Washington said his team refuses to lose heart as it looks toward a brighter 2024.
"The temptation to give up is a common one, and nobody is exempt," Washington said. "Failure isn't something many of us can handle gracefully. A failure is not always a mistake. The real mistake is to stop trying. We will not give in,”
The Jags will lose ten seniors - including Kemontae Crockett, Isaac Frost, Jayden Wright, Logan Hughes, Messiah Allen, Montrell Hawkins, Randell Moss, Ricky Hill, Robie Austin, and Terrance Jones - to graduation, but will return a plethora of talent to its 2024 roster.
