The Madison High School Jaguars varsity squad got to watch the JV team notch a 33-26 win over the Ferriday junior varsity Trojans before adding a victory of its own Friday night in Tallulah.
The varsity Jags improved to 4-1 on the season with a 63-53 win to finish off the team's November home slate.
The Jags led the Trojans 15-8 after the first period and 34-25 heading into halftime.
In the third frame, the Jags increased its lead to 13 heading into the final quarter. MHS ceded a bit of ground in the final period, but stayed in control to cement the 10-point victory.
Madison High School head coach John Holmes said his team played well and is getting better as the young season progresses.
“I’m pleased with the effort and rotation of players,” Holmes said. “We have cut down on turnovers and improve defensively.”
Offensively for the Jags, Steven James led the way in scoring with 12 points; Jerell Henderson notched 10 points; Bryan Vaughn and Amarion White each scored 9 points; and, Ja’Darian Williams and Marquis Thomas finished with 8 points each.
The varsity Jags improved to 5-1 Monday night on the road in Delhi with a 79-44 blowout of the Delhi Charter School Gators.
Williams led the team in scoring with 15; White followed closely with 12; Henderson and Thomas each scored 9; Vaughn finished the game with 8 points; Dawson Brown had 7 points on the night; Myron Williams had 6 points on the night; K’wamarion Robinson finished with 5; Randell Moss added 4 points; and, Larry and James each added 2 points.
The Jags now sit with only one loss on the year and a 1-0 record in Class 2A, District 2, heading into Friday’s non-conference home game versus Block.
The Bears are winless at 0-2 heading into the match up, according to MaxPreps.
Tipoff between the Jaguars and the Bears is scheduled for 6 p.m.
