A correctional officer at Madison Correctional Center was arrested this week after an internal investigation revealed she had repeatedly smuggled contraband into the facility. According to a statement from the Madison Parish Sheriff’s Office, Officer Shalonda Clark admitted to bringing items such as cigarettes, cell phones, and narcotics into the prison approximately 30 times.
Deputies were called to the correctional center on June 16 following credible reports about a staff member introducing illegal items into the secure environment. Investigators quickly identified Clark as the suspect, and upon being taken into custody, she confessed to her involvement. Authorities charged her with one count of criminal conspiracy, one count of malfeasance in office, and one count of introduction of contraband. Her bond has been set at $310,000.
Madison Parish Sheriff Chad Ezell said, “I will not tolerate any employees of this department violating the laws they have sworn to uphold.”
