It is with great pleasure that I announce my candidacy for the office of Mayor of the City of Tallulah. I moved to Tallulah in 2011, and I have since made Tallulah my permanent home. I am a graduate of the University of Nevada Las Vegas with a Degree in Communications and a Minor in Science. I am also a former gaming executive with Mandalay Resort Group in Las Vegas, and a former Development Officer for the Las Vegas Springs Preserve. Since coming to Tallulah, I’ve had the opportunity to work at Doug’s Market and as a Reporter with the Madison Journal prior to coming on to the City of Tallulah in an administrative capacity.
This election is extremely important for the City of Tallulah. We find ourselves in a pivotal position. Louisiana is growing by leaps and bounds, and we need to ensure that Tallulah is positioned to grow with the State. We’ve said for years that with Tallulah’s proximity to water, rail and highway, there should be no reason that we stagnate. But we have. In terms of Economic Development, I plan to focus not only on the local level but also regionally. That means, while concentrating on our revitalizing our Downtown, we need to recruit or home-grow businesses that can move into our vacant commercial buildings. It is vital that we partner with the Louisiana Economic Development agency and our Regional Planning Districts to ensure that when the State markets Louisiana, Tallulah is included in those conversations. Finally, I speak regularly with the mayors of those communities that are experiencing a growth boom (Rayville, Ruston, West Monroe, etc.). My relationships with Louisiana mayors gives me the ability to call anyone at a moment’s notice and know that my calls will always be taken.
I have established relationships with our Federal and State delegations, the Governor’s office, the Office of Community Development, the Louisiana Municipal Association, the Louisiana Association of Municipal Secretaries and Assistants and the Louisiana Clerks Association. If I don’t know the answer to a question, I definitely know someone regionally or statewide to call for the answer. That is important because Tallulah cannot exist in a vacuum and we will not be able to grow without the help and resources of others in Louisiana. Having these relationships not only provides assistance when needed but keeps Tallulah in the loop on things happening in our State.
My campaign will not only concentrate on Economic Development & Job Creation, but also on fixing our water and sewer infrastructure, finding funding for our roads and improving the quality of life in Tallulah. The legacy of Tallulah is one of a vibrant community, once one of the stars of Northeast Louisiana. Together, we can rebuild Tallulah into a strong “Livable Retirement Community,” where there are jobs for our young people and a place that retirees in different states will consider when considering moving from cities back to a quieter, slower, way of life.
Over the next few months, I will personally be going door to door to talk to constituents and answer questions. If you are already a supporter, I ask you to find a way to volunteer with our campaign. And, if you are not a supporter, I eagerly await an opportunity to talk to you personally and answer any questions you may have.
