Where has all the time gone? I remember a time in my pre-teen years talking with my pawpaw and him telling me, “Do what you need to do today and don’t wait for tomorrow, because tomorrow may never come.”
Being that young and even into my younger adult years, his wisdom didn’t resonate with me; however, today I fully understand the truth in those few words. Life goes by quickly when you are always planning for a future day. Live today because life disappears quickly when we are always looking ahead. Proverbs 27:1 says, “Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring.”
Stay in touch with your loved ones. Go visit them if you are able or give them a phone call and renew relationships before it is too late. Say whatever needs to be said before the opportunity is gone.
As my wife and I are witnessing firsthand in this year of 2026, some family members, and friends, are experiencing declining health. It hurts to watch this happen, but we understand that eventually all of us will have the same effects. We need to remember that our health is not guaranteed and it doesn’t matter how successful we are in material things and money, we cannot buy back time. As we age our body deteriorates from the youthful posture that we once knew and, not only our body, but memory as well.
As I think back in the early days when my parents and grandparents were alive, I wish I had paid more attention to what they were telling me. What I did learn from their wisdom is that life is short and life slips away quietly. They would always emphasize using good judgement and patience before you act or speak. Be respectful to those around you and earn your respect through your speech, your attitude, and your actions.
I was always told that if I wanted to have friends I needed to be one. Always be close to your family. Never hold grudges against anyone. When you hold on to a grudge you are not hurting them you are only hurting yourself. Don’t become stressed over trivial matters. Don’t wait for happiness to find you, live in the moment and make the best of it.
The greatest memory I have listening to the wiser older generation that I was fortunate to be around, was to trust and accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior and put Him first in all you do. This is the best advice I ever heard, and I accepted Jesus at an early age, and he has never left me. I depend on Him in anything that I attempt or do!
The best advice I can give you today, since I am now part of the older generation, is to accept Jesus into your heart and live as He guides you!
