It was announced at the Madison Parish Police Jury meeting on Monday, June 9, that the Vicksburg-Tallulah Regional Airport is against the construction of wind turbines in Madison Parish.
In a letter submitted to the police jury, airport board member David Price said “It is our understanding that the Federal Aviation Administration has already approved the plans. We simply wanted it on record that we are not in favor.”
A wind turbine is used to convert wind into energy and is usually 260 feet tall with the rotor being the same size and an overall weight of 300 tons. A wind farm can contain dozens or hundreds of wind turbines.
There are currently three projects in Northeast Louisiana to construct wind turbines, those being in Madison, Tensas and West Carroll parishes. According to NOLA, There is an active lease agreement in Madison Parish held by AES Corporation, which is based in Virginia, and is set to be used for a wind farm.
The exact location and acreage of the land being leased has not been disclosed by AES. We have reached out to the corporation and have not heard back yet.
