Two people were found dead early Sunday inside a car parked in a garage on Herman Lane in what police believe was a case of carbon monoxide poisoning.
According to Tallulah Police Chief Buster McCoy, officers responded to a 911 call around 1:39 a.m. Oct. 5 reporting two unresponsive individuals at 408 Herman Lane. Police, along with deputies from the Madison Parish Sheriff’s Office and paramedics from NELA Ambulance Service, arrived to find a heavy odor consistent with carbon monoxide coming from the home’s garage.
Inside a black sedan, responders found a man and a woman unresponsive. Both were taken to Madison Parish Hospital, where medical staff continued resuscitation efforts before pronouncing them dead shortly after 2:30 a.m.
The victims were identified as Winter Gilbert, 26, and Shanise Albert, 31. Police said the pair were discovered by a woman who lives at the residence. Her name has not been released while the investigation continues.
McCoy said investigators believe the deaths were caused by carbon monoxide poisoning but that autopsies will determine the exact cause and manner of death. Police said there were no signs of foul play.
Records show Albert tried to contact the resident by text and phone shortly before midnight. McCoy said investigators are reviewing those communications as part of the case.
McCoy extended his condolences to the families of both victims. “Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time,” he said in a statement.
Autopsy results are pending, and the investigation remains open.
