Turnovers were as much of an opponent as the opposing team Thursday night for the Delhi Charter School Gators.
Despite some promising plays in offensive drives early in the contest with the visiting Bolton Bears, an interception and four lost fumbles – all of which the Bears converted into points – left the Gators trailing 34-0 after only a quarter of play.
DCS quarterback Kameron Wicker bounced back from throwing the INT on the Gators’ first drive of the night to find some success in the passing game, but continued pressure from a stout Bears defense, and slippery hands from Gators running backs, led to a steep hill to climb in order to reach any hope of a comeback.
The Bears, who stepped into the match up for the Gators’ homecoming at the last minute after extenuating circumstances left scheduled-foe Beekman unable to play, finished the night with a 58-0 shutout of DCS.
With the loss, the Gators fall to 0-4 on the season and will look to notch its first win of the year next Thursday (Oct. 29) at home versus Rayville.
