An 18-wheeler hauling corn overturned Tuesday on Levee Road in Delta, injuring the driver, according to the Madison Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Chad Ezell said deputies responded to the crash along with Delta First Responders and the Tallulah Fire Department. The driver, identified as Rob Fortenberry, was trapped inside the cab and had to be extricated before being airlifted to University Medical Center in Jackson, Miss.
Fortenberry later wrote on Facebook, “I’m gonna be ok. Bad deal this morning. Thank God for Chip Sullivan and Mack Marsh and his crew. Plus all the Sheriff’s Office employees. Thanks again for everyone that was there.” Family members said he sustained several broken bones.
Ezell urged drivers to use caution during harvest season. “There will be a lot of traffic on the roadways, along with trucks hauling gravel as well,” Ezell said in a statement. “There have been numerous complaints about trucks on the roadways. I just want to remind everyone to drive cautiously, be mindful of the speed limits, secure your loads and follow the law. We do have deputies out monitoring traffic and citations are being issued.”
