The National Weather Service has confirmed that a tornado touched down in Madison Parish on the night of Saturday, Oct. 18, causing damage along a 3.9-mile path near the Hunters Bend community.
According to the NWS Jackson office, the tornado was rated EF1 with estimated peak winds of 105 miles per hour. The storm began around 7:45 p.m. on Oct. 18 about 13 miles northwest of Newellton and ended at 7:53 p.m. about 12 miles southwest of Richmond.
Survey crews reported that the tornado damaged trees, power lines, barns, and a mobile home. A 12-by-24-foot hunting shed was destroyed, and debris was blown into nearby trees. Tree damage continued through wooded areas northeast of Hunters Bend Road and across the Tensas River.
No injuries or fatalities were reported.
The storm was one of two tornadoes confirmed from Saturday night’s weather system. A weaker EF0 tornado occurred in Yazoo County, Mississippi. The weather service said additional surveys are ongoing in other affected areas.
