The Trojans scored early and often in its homecoming matchup with Discovery Christian Friday night en route to a 52-14 trampling of the winless Lions.
The Trojans' starters left their marks and took spots on the sideline before halftime, allowing younger players to see action for most of the contest, as TA improved to 6-1 on the year with the win.
TA's offense scored on its first three drives to take a 24-0 lead over the Lions. Hayes Hopkins hauled in a 44-yard touchdown pass from Dee Morgan for the Trojans' first score of the game and Morgan added two points on the ground. Brayson Morson and Morgan took turns turning in long rushing scores of 77 and 47 yards, respectively, with Wyatt Bedgood adding both 2-point conversions on the ground.
Bedgood got in on the rushing scores with a 46-yard TD run of his own late in the first and Morgan found Judd Dennis through the air for the conversion, giving the Trojans a 32-0 lead.
The Lions managed a first-half score early in the second quarter, with a short pass completion turning into a long touchdown. TA's Denton Ray intercepted the Lions' 2-point pass attempt and DC settled for 6 on its first scoring drive.
TA answered quickly with rushing scores from Arnett Sevier and Mac Cagnolatti. Cade Morgan and Thomas McNight each hauled in 2-point conversion passes, with the latter pulling down the pass from Hopkins at QB in relief of Morgan.
The Lions found the end zone once more in the second half, but the Trojans couldn't be caught, and cruised to the easy homecoming win.
Tallulah Academy wide receiver Cole Boyte also turned in a 20-yard touchdown run.
Offensively, Morgan finished his short game with 62 passing yards and one touchdown, with a 50-percent passer rating to go along with his rushing score. Hopkins led in receiving, with 44 yards and a touchdown. Sevier led the Trojans in rushing, with 87 yards and touchdown on just 2 carries and averaging a monster 43.5 yards per carry.
Defensively, Cagnolatti finished with five solo tackles and 1.5 for a loss; Sevier ended the game with 1.5 tackles, 1.5 for a loss and one sack; Ray tallied 2.5 solo tackles, one tackle for a loss and one sack.
The Trojans finished the game with 516 yards of total offense, while holding the Lions to just 158 yards. TA tallied 62 passing yards and gave up 172 through the air but the Trojans amassed 454 rushing yards, while holding Discovery to an eye-popping -14 yards on the ground.
This week, the Trojans will hit the road for a non-conference game withe the Newton County Academy Generals. The Generals are currently unbeaten at 8-0 and are coming off a 68-32 win over Kemper Academy.
Kickoff for the Trojans and the Generals is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Decatur, Miss.
