Despite not being able to repeat as 1A state champs due to redistricting, the Tallulah Academy Trojans still found itself a game away from the 3A championship game in a semifinal matchup with the Claiborne Academy Rebels Thursday at home in Tallulah.
Down by 1 run in the bottom of the third, the Trojans tied things up at 6-all with a score from senior Paul Michael Machen.
The Rebels would respond in the top of the fifth inning, however, with a home run and a double RBI, to take an 8-6 lead.
CA added three more runs to lead11-6, before TA's Dee Morgan tacked on a double-RBI, driving in Landry Tweedle and Hayes Hopkins in the bottom of the sixth inning.
An RBI from J.T. McDaniel in the bottom of the seventh drove in Machen for a late-game score, but it wouldn't be enough to knock of CA, as the Rebels downed the Trojans in a close, 11-9 decision to end the year for TA a game shy of a championship berth.
