The Tallulah Academy Trojans wrapped up its regular season with its eighth win of the year Friday night, knocking off the Porter's Chapel Eagles and securing the Class 2A, District 3 championship in the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools (MAIS) 8-man football league.
The Trojans dismantled the Eagles at home on Senior Night in a 64-20 thumping that began with a 48-yard touchdown run from Wyatt Bedgood. Brayson Morson got in on the ground-game scoring with a 75-yard touchdown run and TA jumped out to a 16-0 lead early in the contest.
Later in the first quarter, Trojans quarterback Dee Morgan found Henry Ellerbee through the air for a 44-yard touchdown strike.
Morson added a 85-yard touchdown run in the second quarter and TA led 52-6 at the half.
In the third quarter, Hayes Hopkins pitched in on the ground with a 53-yard touchdown run and Morson found the end zone again after recovering a forced fumble, as the Trojans ended the regular season with a statement win.
Offensively, Morgan finished the night with a 33-percent completion rate through the air for one touchdown. Morson led on the ground with 170 yards on just 5 carries for 2 touchdowns and averaging a monster 34 yards a carry. Morson also added a score on defense. Bedgood followed closely on the ground with 117 total yards on only 7 carries for 3 touchdowns and averaging 16 yards per carry.
Defensively, Morson finished with 2.5 tackles, a forced fumble, two fumble recoveries and the defensive score. Arnett Sevier tallied 5.5 tackles, a sack, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. Morgan finished with five tackles, 1.5 tackles for a loss and a fumble recovery.
TA finished the game 490 yards of total offense, while holding the Eagles to 217. The Trojans piled up 446 rushing yards and 44 passing yards, while the Eagles only mustered 134 yards on the ground and 83 through the air.
With the win, the Trojans finished the regular season 8-1 and will advance to the MAIS playoffs. TA will have a bye week before facing the winner of a first-round game between Porter's Chapel and Ben's Ford Christian.
TA will kick off versus its to-be-determined opponent Fri., Nov. 4, at 7 p.m.
