The Delhi Charter School Gators are headed to round 2 of the Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) Division 4 playoffs after shutting out the St. John Eagles at home in Delhi Friday night in a 40-0 win.
The Eagles came fast out of the gate with a trick play that put them deep inside Gators territory, but the DCS defense stood firm, forcing a turnover on downs.
It would take several offensive efforts before DCS running back Deandra Young broke free on the ground to give the Gators the lead. Shamar Udeji added 2 and DCS took an 8-0 lead.
The Gators would never give up its advantage, as the DCS defense pitched a shutout en route to the win.
With the victory over St. John, the Gators will move on to face the 9-1 St. Martin's Episcopal Saints Fri., Nov. 18, in round 2.
