The latest weekly report for the City of Tallulah water system outlines recent equipment repairs, leak repairs, and maintenance activities as operations continue under Central States Water Resources (CSWR).
The update, submitted June 30 by Brad Thibault, Director of Operations Technical Services at CSWR, covers activities through the week ending June 27.
According to the report, the transfer blower from the lime silo to the slaker malfunctioned. Plant staff restored it to service after discovering lime buildup on the blower lobes, which had fused due to heat. “A preventive maintenance (PM) task will be created and assigned to the asset once we understand the frequency of build-up,” Thibault wrote.
Low service pump #1 also locked up and tripped its reset. Staff identified the same issue as with the blower and repaired the unit. During repairs, workers used a diesel transfer pump.
A second low-service pump remains on order. “The delivery date of the pump has been pushed back three times,” the report noted. Magnolia-PPS, the operations company, may seek to cancel the current scope of work if delays continue.
The cleaning of the city’s elevated water tower was completed by a third-party vendor. A follow-up report with photographs is expected.
Distribution staff repaired four leaks and flushed eight fire hydrants. Operations management is tracking hydrant flushing to help account for water loss.
Work also continues with BBEC on a contingency plan related to pressure filters.
Management is developing Phase II system projects and has received some proposals. “These project costs have already been placed on the Triage-Stabilization Excel worksheet,” Thibault stated.
The full update was sent to Jennifer Kihlken, Deputy Chief Engineer of Field Operations at the Louisiana Department of Health.
