A Shreveport man believed to be staying in Madison Parish was taken into custody Sunday night in Tallulah on weapons charges, but not before shedding his clothing and leading local law enforcement on a foot chase.
According to Madison Parish Sheriff’s Office officials, 30-year-old Kentrell Baker was approached by an MPSO deputy at approximately 8:47 p.m. Sunday after his car was noticed parked in the roadway on Bayou Drive. Officials said the deputy initially made contact with Baker in order to ensure his vehicle was not experiencing problems. After Baker reported his vehicle had broken down, officials said the deputy noticed the car running and observed two weapons – an AR-15 rifle and a “cocked” handgun - in open view on the front seat. Baker then fled on foot.
MPSO Investigator and Public Information Officer Brandon Wiltcher said deputies, along with officers with Tallulah Police Department, had the vehicle towed and searched and found, in addition to the weapons, a “green, leafy substance” believed to be marijuana.
Shortly after fleeing law enforcement, Baker was apprehended at the former Tallulah High School building, where officials said he was found without his clothing and dressed only in his underwear.
Wiltcher said Baker was taken into custody and booked into the Madison Parish Jail. He now faces charges of one count of simple obstruction of the highway; one count of aggravated flight from an officer; one count of prohibited acts, schedule I; two counts of carrying a firearm by a convicted felon; and, one count of driver must be licensed.
