In the spirit of the giving season, Gov. John Bel Edwards has joined Hunters For The Hungry Louisiana in helping to feed the hungry in state by donating over 150 pounds of protein to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Baton Rouge.
Louisiana is in the midst of a hunger crisis and Hunters For The Hungry Louisiana (H4H) has programs in place where Louisiana sportsmen have the opportunity to donate their surplus of protein to the needy, which is the most expensive part of every meal, officials with the governor's office said.
As an avid outdoorsman, Edwards had his own freezer full of protein, as do many hunters and fishermen of Louisiana, they said. The 150 pounds of protein will provide healthy, nourishing meals at St. Vincent de Paul of Baton Rouge, a non-profit, charitable organization that has a rich history of service to the needy.
“I enjoy taking advantage of all that our Sportsman’s Paradise has to offer, and I am thankful for the opportunity to donate my hunting game to Hunters for the Hungry.” Edwards said. “The holidays are a time of giving, and I encourage Louisianans to find ways to give back to their communities in any way they can, big or small.”
