Mobile, Ala. – On Saturday, June 24, Rosie Shultz of Ruston, La., was named one of 8 finalists in the 2023 Distinguished Young Women National Finals competition and awarded a $5,000 cash scholarship.
Following a selection process that began in her home state of La., Shultz began preparing for the 66th annual scholarship competition. The competition was held at the Mobile Civic Center in Mobile, Ala. Thursday, June 22 was the first night of preliminary competition and Friday, June 23 was the second night of preliminary competition.
Shultz is a graduate of Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts in Natchitoches, La.. In the fall, she will attend Brown University with plans to become an Environmental Lawyer. She is the daughter of Sylvia and Jeffry Shultz.
Carrington Hodge of Helena, Ala. was selected as the Distinguished Young Woman of America for 2023 and presented with a $40,000 cash scholarship. Other participants receiving top awards in the 2023 Distinguished Young Women National Finals include First Runner- Up Maggie Haimelin of Chattanooga, Tenn., Second Runner-Up Madison Parker of Pittsboro, Ind., and Third Runner-Up Megan Tandar of Salt Lake City, Utah. $155,000 in total cash scholarships was awarded during the three-night competition.
