(Louisiana Statewide – Nov. 22, 2023) – Louisiana is just a few days away from one of our state’s most anticipated college football rivalries – the Bayou Classic. This legendary game between Southern University and Grambling State University celebrates its 50th Anniversary when the teams take the field this Saturday, November 25 in New Orleans. Louisiana Public Broadcasting (LPB) is highlighting this golden anniversary with three digital shorts now streaming on the HBCU Week Now YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/@HBCUWeekNow.
Maryland Public Television (MPT) with the support of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), is leading this exciting initiative with LPB, Howard University Television and PBS North Carolina producing films focusing on classic football matchups that are a central part of HBCU culture.
“We know the people of Louisiana are familiar with this highly anticipated football matchup each year, but thanks to this opportunity provided by Maryland Public Television, we now have a chance to share the history and splendor of the Bayou Classic with a nationwide audience,” says Clarence “C.C” Copeland, LPB President and CEO.
“We thank CPB for its support of this important project and for its commitment to bringing the HBCU story to households across America,” said Travis E. Mitchell, MPT senior vice president and chief content officer “We hope that alignment of this content with the access provided by our strategic partners, will help us foster unity through dialogue and inspire additional content opportunities that create access to and for communities of color.”
