Baton Rouge - The Environment and Health Council of Louisiana (EHCL) is hosting its annual conference on November 14 at the University of New Orleans. This year’s conference theme is “Infectious Diseases and Louisiana: Impact and Current Knowledge.”
Each year, the EHCL hosts an annual conference in support of its mission to provide factual discussions on environmental, health, and economic development topics. The most recent conference focused on Coastal Resiliency in Louisiana. Other conferences topics included effective water management, Alzheimer disease, and childhood obesity.
The 2023 conference will feature expert scientists and clinicians from LSU, Pennington Biomedical Research Center, LSU Health Sciences Center, and Tulane Medical Center, who will speak on specific topics to the general public. Speakers include Dr. Joe Kanter—Louisiana State Health Officer and Dr. Mike Strain—Louisiana Commissioner of Agriculture, as well as Dr. Rebecca Christopherson, Dr. Stephania Cormier, Dr. Paul Fidel, Dr. Michele Longo, Dr. Fred Lopez, and Dr. John Schieffelin.
Conference topics include an overview of infectious diseases in Louisiana, agricultural disease and its impact on the human population, pediatric diseases and vaccination, emerging infectious diseases, mosquito-transmitted diseases, Long-COVID disease, and a diversity of diseases caused by bacteria, fungi, viruses, and other infectious agents.
The conference begins at 9:00 AM and adjourns at 3:30 PM. EHCL conferences are free and open to the public. Pre-registration is urged via the EHCL website at www.ehcla.org. Early registrants will receive complimentary lunch.
The Environment and Health Council of Louisiana is a nonprofit organization founded in 1983 to facilitate independent, balanced, and factual assessments of health issues related to the environmental and economic well-being of Louisiana.
