Madison High School graduate Jeremiah Marshall has announced his commitment to the University of Fort Lauderdale.
Marshall, a 2023 MHS graduate, excelled athletically in both football and basketball, but said it was the latter that has provided him a chance to compete at the next level.
“My first love was the game of football,” Marshall said. “I had no clue the game of basketball had so much in store for me. Big shout out to Carl Martin. I picked up a basketball (in) sixth grade summer after playing Pee-wee Football since second grade. He gave me the idea (of) being a basketball player. He said to me one day, ‘come try out for basketball. I can see you running up and down the court.’”
Marshall said it took a lot of hard work and getting cut from a junior high team before he finally made the commitment to basketball that has propelled him to where he is today.
“Carl told me, ‘go listen to Michael Jordan’s story, bro. Don’t give up.’ I never looked back. I fell in love with the grind! I came back harder (and) started every year of basketball since seventh grade up to twelfth.”
In that time, Marshall has helped his team to a number of winning seasons and postseason wins, as well as garnered accolades for himself. Following the 2021-22 season, Marshall was named to the Class 2A, District 2 First Team; following the 2022-23 season, as a senior, Marshall was named to First Team, All-District.
And while National Signing Day for the current cycle has passed, Marshall said he will be updating his friends and family as his journey to the next level progresses.
In the meantime, Madison High School Head Basketball Coach John Holmes said he is proud of where his former start player is on his road to the next opportunity.
"I'm proud of him," Holmes said. "He's a great kid and a hard worker. He worked hard for four years for us and he deserves every opportunity he gets. Hard work pays off."
