Spring semester classes begin Mon., Jan. 10, at Louisiana Delta Community College, despite the recent surge of the Omicron variant of COVID.
“Registration is still underway for those who would like to attend but have not yet registered,” Dr. Wendi Tostenson, vice chancellor for education and student services, said. “We also have workforce programs with open registration.”
Workforce offerings this spring include Basic Electric, CNA, Electronic Health Records, EKG, Forklift, Heavy Equipment Operator, Phlebotomy, and Private Investigator. A new course will be offered for health care providers called HeartCode Basic Life Support (BLS). This training provides the foundation for life-saving practices after cardiac arrest and is the American Heart Association’s blended learning delivery method for the BLS Course. A complete list of LDCC workforce courses can be found at ladelta.edu/workforce.
Tostenson said classes on all campuses will be offered as advertised in the course listing. Most courses are available in multiple online, in-person, and hybrid formats. Students should check their Canvas account as usual for welcome and other information from the instructor.
COVID protocols put in place at the beginning of the pandemic will remain relatively the same at LDCC. “
We put a lot of safety measures in place early on.” explained Dr. Randy Esters, chancellor. “We have made improvements and gotten better at facing this virus.”
One example of the measures taken was the installation of UVC light sterilization fixtures on the air conditioning units. The fixtures kill bacteria and inactivate viruses so that purified air can be circulated back into the rooms. Additionally, in-person classes were kept small to accommodate social distancing when possible. Hand sanitizing stations are located throughout the buildings, and masks will remain readily available. Students and visitors will notice signage to direct foot traffic and screens in offices to separate people as much as possible, LDCC officials said.
“The safety of our LDCC community is imperative, and we will continue to provide the safest environment possible to learn and work,” Esters said. “We have a mission and a responsibility as the community’s college. We must train a workforce and prepare transfer students for a university career. We will meet our obligations to this community in the safest way we can, but we know businesses and students alike depend on us to deliver on our promise.”
LDCC’s schedule of classes can be found at ladelta.edu. The last day to register for the spring semester is January 6, 2022. Late Registration and Drop/Add is January 7, 2022, 12:01 a.m. - Thurs., Jan. 13, 2022, 11:59 p.m.
