Ronnie Powell Holloway

January 25, 1937 – January 17, 2021

Ronnie Powell Holloway, age 83, a resident of Tallulah, Louisiana, died Sunday, January 17, 2021, at Delhi Hospital in Delhi, Louisiana.

Mr. Holloway was born January 25, 1937, in the Warsaw community near Crowville, Louisiana, to Ashley Sanders Holloway and Lessie Mae Welch Holloway. He was the youngest of eleven children.

He grew up in the Warsaw community and attended Andrews School during his elementary school years. When he want to junior high school, he promoted to Crowville High School from which he graduated in 1955. He attended Louisiana College before transferring to and graduating from Northeast Louisiana University in 1959.

Mr. Holloway married his high school sweetheart, Nellia Faye Lee, on May 30, 1958. They had three children together. He began his employment as a school teacher in Port Neches, Texas. He was employed there for two years.  He then moved to Tallulah, Louisiana, to teach at Tallulah Elementary School where he taught fifth grade and coached peewee football for three years. For the majority of his life, he was a farmer in Madison Parish, Louisiana, and raised Black Angus cattle, a hobby which brought him great joy.

 

Mr. Holloway served on the state boards of Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation and Louisiana Angus Association. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Tallulah and served as a deacon. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and an active participant in the community. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading Louie Lamour and James Michenor novels, and spending time with his family.

Mr. Holloway is survived by his wife of 62 years, Faye Holloway; son, Ron Holloway, Jr., wife Ellen; son, Herbert Holloway, wife Melinda; and daughter, Dena Warren, husband Robert; nine grandchildren, Trey, Casey, Luke, Caleb, Holly, Erin, Ty, Ally, and Hope; and seven great grandchildren.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Ashley and Lessie Mae Holloway, and ten siblings, Huel, Arlene “Sister”, Herman, Vivian, Hazel, Ashley, E.E. “Tad”, Temple Edith, Jessie, and Carolyn.

Visitation was held at First Baptist Church of Tallulah on Tuesday, January 19, 2021, from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM followed by a graveside service and burial at Crowville Masonic Cemetery in Crowville, Louisiana, with Bro. John Skinner and Bro. Robert Warren officiating under the direction of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home in Tallulah.

Pallbearers were Trey Holloway, Luke Holloway, Caleb Holloway, Mason Erwin, Ty Warren, and Lesley Dunham.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to First Baptist Church of Tallulah.
