Road work is underway on North Chestnut Street and North Cedar Street in Tallulah as part of a $575,013 Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) project.
According to Erin Buchanan, DOTD public information officer, the project involves full-depth patching at pre-determined locations before paving. The method removes and replaces old material at the base of the roadway to address deficiencies and help prevent future failures.
After patching is complete, US 65 will be repaved with new asphalt. Buchanan said patching should be completed this week, with asphalt paving expected to finish by the end of next week, weather permitting. Permanent striping will follow.
DOTD’s website notes that alternating lane closures will be present on US 65 between Dabney Street and Parish Road as the work progresses. One lane will remain open to through traffic. No formal detour is in place.
Motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians are urged to use caution near the construction zone.
