It has been a bittersweet week for the Tallulah Academy family, according to posts on social media, where the Trojan faithful have spoken up about years of memories made in portions of the school now being torn down after being heavily damaged by a tornado in 2022.
TA Headmaster Betina Finlayson said the demolition is just the beginning, as rebuilding efforts will start shortly after, with plans for a one-story structure that will house a new gymnasium and eight classrooms.
Finlayson said the TA family is appreciative of the outpouring of support from the community throughout the process, adding the school was helped tremendously throughout the recent school year by local schools and churches, including First Baptist Church Tallulah and Parkview Baptist Church, both of which hosted several events and housed students in temporary accommodations. Finlayson also said the school owes much thanks to the Madison Parish School Board and Madison Middle School, where TA was allowed to hold basketball and track events throughout the year.
The new constructions, Finlayson said, is expected to take approximately a year to a year-and-a-half to complete.
