In Madison Parish, access to healthcare does not require a drive to another city. At the Madison Parish Hospital, medical services, emergency care and outpatient support are available within the parish.
As a community hospital, Madison Parish Hospital serves residents of Tallulah and surrounding areas, providing emergency services, inpatient care and a range of outpatient and diagnostic services designed to meet local needs.
Behind the scenes, a team of administrative and financial professionals works to ensure the hospital operates each day without interruption.
Lisa McIntyre serves as accounts payable manager.
“I am the accounts payable manager. So get the invoices, get ’em food, and pay them when they're due,” McIntyre said.
McIntyre has worked at the hospital for nearly 13 years and said she hopes to retire there.
“May 10th will be 13 years,” she said.
A Tallulah native and graduate of the former Reuben McCall High School, McIntyre returned home after living in Texas for 12 years.
“I love Tallulah. It’s a quiet town,” she said. “After a while you get tired of the fast paced.”
She said the hospital environment reflects the community it serves.
“The atmosphere, and the people,” she said when asked what she enjoys most about her work.
Faith also plays a central role in her life.
“Faith is the key,” McIntyre said. “Without him I couldn’t make it.”
Kim Martin, corporate controller at the hospital, oversees financial reporting and assists the chief financial officer. She supervises accounts payable and works closely with auditors.
“I am the corporate controller and I supervise accounts payable and assist the CFO as necessary,” Martin said.
Originally from Vicksburg, Martin has worked at Madison Parish Hospital for three years.
“We just are like family and teamwork makes the dream work,” she said.
Martin said the busiest times of the year are at month-end and year-end, when financial reports and audits require additional coordination.
“At the end of the month and at the end of the year, those are our busiest times,” she said.
She described the work environment as collaborative.
“Everyone respects each other and the communication is great and it’s just we work as a team to get things done,” Martin said.
From the patient perspective, Martin emphasized service and follow-up.
“You’re always greeted with a smile and they are attentive to patient needs and great follow up,” she said.
Services for the Community
Madison Parish Hospital operates as a rural healthcare provider, offering 24-hour emergency care, inpatient services and outpatient clinics. Emergency services allow residents to receive immediate care without traveling outside the parish. Outpatient services support routine medical visits, follow-up care and diagnostic testing.
Like many rural hospitals, Madison Parish Hospital plays a role beyond medical treatment. It is also a major employer in the parish and a key institution in maintaining local access to healthcare.
For residents, the ability to receive stitches, emergency stabilization or diagnostic testing close to home can reduce travel time and improve continuity of care. Hospital leadership and staff emphasize teamwork, communication and responsiveness as central to their mission. “We work as a team to get things done,” Martin said. For McIntyre, who grew up in Tallulah and chose to return, the hospital represents stability and service within the community. “I don’t regret it,” she said of moving back home.
In a parish where institutions matter, Madison Parish Hospital continues to serve as a central point for healthcare — providing emergency response, financial stewardship and patient care under one roof.
For residents of Madison Parish, care is available close to home.
