Funeral services for Mr. James Russell Mathews Sr. were held at 12 p.m., Sat., March 25, at Parkview Baptist Church in Tallulah, with the Rev. Jason Lupo and Pastor Timothy Chandler officiating. Visitation began at 10 a.m.. Burial followed in Monclova Cemetery in Waterproof, La., under the direction of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home in Tallulah.
Mathews
Mr. Mathews passed away at his home in Tallulah Tue., March 21, at the age of 80. He was born May 15, 1942, in St. Joseph, La. to John Henry and Mary Edna Ulmer Mathews. Mr. Mathews worked at Marathon Letourneau in Vicksburg, Miss. for 45 years.
Mr. Mathews is preceded in death by his parents, John Henry and Mary Edna Mathews; brothers, Quenton “Red” Mathews, John Henry “Buddy” Mathews, George “Tinker” Mathews, Billy Mathews, Alfred Sanders, and John Pollard Mathews; and sisters, Mattie Howard, Winnie Robertson, Myrtle Mae Floyd, Majorie Ford, and Annie Harris.
Mr. Mathews is survived by his wife of 60 years, Barbara Lorene Mathews; son, Thomas Marshall “Mark” Mathews and wife Svetlana; son, James Russell “Rusty” Mathews Jr.; daughter, Beverly Rechelle Gunter and husband John; ten grandchildren: Candice, Blake, Ashley, Lance, Kallie, Trey, Heather, Brandon, Timothy, and Polina; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Kenny Gayle, Trey Mathews, Timothy Mathews, Lance Mathews, Joey Ghrigsby, and Bryson Allison.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Cross Roads Hospice, Mary Beth, and Brenda for the care and comfort they provided to Mr. Mathews during the last few months of his life.
