John
She was born Oct. 24, 1953, in Stuttgart, Germany to her parents, Col. Hamlet and Elizabeth Carter. She went to her heavenly home July 3, 2023.
Ellie, known to her family as Emme, was proud to have been an “Army Brat”. She loved traveling and living in different parts of the world with her family. In 1966, Colonel Carter retired from the Army and went on to teach at then NLU. She was one of the students in the first class of Dental Hygiene. She continued her love of dentistry for the next 45 years and taught for 25 years in the dental hygiene clinic at ULM. Ellie touched many lives during her career as a hygienist and teacher.
While at NLU, she was a member of Phi Mu Sorority, homecoming queen and KA Rose. It was here that she met the father of her sons, Stuart Moberley. Edwin and Carter were the lights of her life. She lived for them. She loved being a boy mom and going to baseball, football, and soccer games. She lived for Friday nights and the stadium in Tallulah.
Once the grandchildren arrived, Ellie’s passion shifted to them. She rarely missed any events the grandchildren participated in: dancing, theatre, softball, baseball and football. She loved watching them grow and succeed. She doted over all of her grandchildren and rarely, if ever, were they not mentioned in any conversation that she had. Ellie loved her grandchildren and really made the holidays special for them, especially Christmas Eve Eve at Emme’s house. Ellie’s last days were spent watching her favorite baseball team, the Diamond Jax and her favorite player, #2.
In 1993, Ellie married her soulmate, Howard John. They continued their love of dentistry and built a new dental office in 2000. Howard understood her better than anyone and she adored him. Their life was one of adventure and expanding their knowledge of dentistry. Howard accepted Edwin and Carter as his sons. In 2009, Howard built her a new home in Delhi, La. so that she could be close to her family in Tallulah.
Ellie was a member of the ADHA association, St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, and Phi Mu Alumni. She loved her church and when in Delhi, attended the Delhi United Methodist and Tallulah Methodist with her family.
Ellie is survived by her husband, Howard; her two sons, Edwin Moberley, Carter Moberley and wife Jennifer; sister, Nancy Holloway and husband Don; brother Edgar C. Carter and wife Nancy; stepchildren, Michelle John, Dustin John, and Daniel John and wife Jesse; seven grandchildren, Julia Moberley, Luke Moberley, Elle Moberley, Ava Carter Moberley, Eva Katherine Moberley, Gradyon John, and Chloe John; special niece, Robin Holloway; nephews, Matthew Carter, Benjamin Carter and Coleman Holloway.
Due to no remains, there will be no pallbearers, but Ellie was adamant that we listed her honorary pallbearers: Mr. Gary Graham, Mr. Joe Farr, Mr. Jeffrey Nick (5th son), Mr. Matthew Carter, Mr. Benjamin Carter, and Mr. Coleman Holloway.
In lieu of flowers, Ellie requests that memorials be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation to help find the cure for Type 1 Diabetes.
