Madison Parish 4-H Blessing Box Receives August Support, Seeks Future Volunteers

The Madison Parish 4-H Blessing Box project continued through August with support from the Madison Journal and several local residents.

Publisher Timothy Holdiness and Office Manager Sharon Guice managed the August donations. Other contributors included Deonte Williams, Rev. Jessie Jones and Maxine Jones.

Madison Parish School Board Withdraws Funds to Cover Bills

The Madison Parish School Board met Aug. 18 and took steps to address its finances, considered updates to student policies, and delayed approval of the district’s student handbook until September.

The board adopted its agenda, approved bills for payment, and accepted the minutes of the July 21 meeting.

Demolition of the former American Legion building in Tallulah on Monday.

Old American Legion Building Demolished

The Madison Parish Police Jury assisted in the demolition of the former Gayle’s Ice Cream building, which most recently was the American Legion post.

A representative of the American Legion said they still own the property and have not decided what will be done with it. As of now, it could be used by the neighboring church.

Zelma Marcella Hutchins was born September 14, 1936, in Black Oak, Arkansas, to Luther and Jessie Hatcher Hutchins. She passed away Monday, August 25, 2025, at her home in Transylvania, Louisiana, surrounded by her family. She was 88 years old.
