FBI Seeking Multiple Suspects in Leland Shooting

A weekend of violence in Mississippi left six people dead and at least 10 others wounded after gunfire erupted early Saturday in downtown Leland during a high school homecoming celebration. The shootings were the deadliest single act of violence to strike the small Delta town in decades.

Signs Announce Closure of FSA Office
Notices posted on the door of the Madison Parish Farm Service Agency office in Tallulah on Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2025, inform the public that the office is closed due to the federal government shutdown. The signs state the office will reopen once funding is restored and direct residents to the Madison Parish Library, where the Soil and Water Conservation District has set up temporary space.

The federal government entered a partial shutdown at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, after lawmakers in Washington failed to approve new funding. The impact was seen within hours in Madison Parish, where the Madison Parish Farm Service Agency office is closed until Congress restores funding.
