The Delhi Charter School Gators earned a first-round playoff bout at home with St. John Friday night with an end-of-the-season blowout of Sicily Island.
The Gators' offense put its foot on the gas early in Thursday's game and never let up, while the defense pitched a shutout for four quarters.
Running back Deandra Young found the end zone three times on the ground, while Shamar Udeji and Cameron Antley each found pay dirt twice. Antonio Williams Jr. also added a score in the offensive route.
Udeji kicked off the scoring bonanza with a 33-yard rushing strike on the Gators' opening offensive possession and added a 25-yard touchdown run on the following drive.
Late in the first quarter, Williams hauled in a long pass from Chad Clark II to get the Gators in the red zone, before pulling down a five-yard pass at the 1-yard line. Williams finished the drive with 1-yard score and Clark added 2 on the ground to put the Gators up 22-0.
Early in the second quarter, Young found the end zone on the ground to give DCS a 30-0 lead and added a 38-yard score to give DCS a 46-point advantage, all before the halftime break.
The Gators picked up where they left off in the second half, with Antley taking the opening kickoff 80 yards for a score and adding a 54-yard rushing touchdown on the first play of the fourth quarter.
Major Fortenberry picked off a Tigers' pass late in the fourth to preserve the shutout and the Gators cruised to a big win.
The victory over the Tigers leaves DCS with a 9-1 record on the season and a perfect 5-0 mark as the No. 1-ranked team in Class 1A, District 4.
The Gators will now move on to host the St. John Eagles in the first round of the Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) playoffs Friday night.
The Eagles come into Friday’s contest at 5-5 on the season and 2-2 in Class 1A, District 8 play. The Eagles ended its regular season last week with a 22-0 loss to Jeanerette on the road.
DCS and St. John are scheduled to kick off Friday at 7 p.m. at Brett Raley Field.
