Two separate incidents involving handguns have landed a pair of local men in jail on attempted murder charges.
According to information from the Madison Parish Sheriff’s office, deputies were notified Mon., June 14, of an argument in which one man allegedly produced a pistol and struck a second individual. According to MPSO, as the victim fled the scene, the suspect fired his weapon at him before stealing his vehicle. MPSO Investigator and Public Information Officer Brandon Wiltcher said deputies were able to identify 71-year-old Oscar Lawrence as a suspect in the case and took him into custody later the same evening at his residence, where the stolen vehicle was also recovered.
Lawrence was charged with one count of attempted murder, second degree; one count of armed robbery with the use of a firearm; one count of theft of a motor vehicle; one count of possession of schedule II; one count of aggravated battery; and, one count of illegal carrying of a weapon.
In a separate incident later in the week, MPSO deputies responded to reports of gunfire after two men got into an argument Sat., June 19, at a local residence. The altercation led to one individual firing a pistol at the second, causing the victim to flee the scene of foot, according to MPSO. Wiltcher said the victim reported the incident and deputies arrested 50-year-old Kevin Bass at the residence where the events allegedly took place.
Bass was charged with one count of attempted murder, second degree; one count of illegal use of a dangerous weapon; and, one count of simple possession of marijuana.
Both men were booked into the Madison Parish Jail.
