Snowfall has stopped in Madison Parish; however, forecasts continue to call for a second round of snow and ice Wednesday and Thursday.

Eye of the storm

Madison Parish is attempting to thaw to a degree, literally, Tuesday as snowfall has stopped; however, forceasts are calling for more snow and ice for Wednesday and Thursday, likely keeping businesses closed, school out and traffic at a slow crawl.

Monday night, officials with the City of Tallulah were working after dark on a water leak located at a local school, which was not named, but prompted city officials to urge residents to conserve water.

Tuesday morning, a convoy of lift trucks could be seen headed west on Interstate 20, while residents were still strongly encouraged by local law enforcement and state officials alike to remain indoors and off roadways when possible.

Currently, the Tallulah Post Office is open for access to P.O. boxes, which have been filled with what mail has arrived; however, Madison Parish Post Master Dusty Butler said the post office's indoor window is closed and walking mail routes have been suspended.

Louisiana Delta Community College announced Monday the closure of all campuses through Tuesday, while Madison Parish High School announced virtual learning will continue Tuesday through Friday.
