Voters in Madison Parish will head to the polls Saturday, Oct. 11, to decide four parishwide millage renewal propositions, including measures to fund the courthouse and jail, the parish health unit and general fund, public works and garbage collection, and the 911 communications system.
Proposition No. 1 asks voters to renew a 7-mill property tax expected to generate $796,200 annually for 10 years beginning in 2027. The funds would continue to support the Madison Parish Courthouse and Jail. Proposition No. 2 seeks renewal of a 1.18-mill property tax expected to produce $134,200 yearly, divided equally between the Madison Parish Health Unit and the parish general fund. Proposition No. 3 proposes renewal of a 9.03-mill property tax estimated to bring in $1,027,100 per year, with half dedicated to garbage collection and disposal and half to public works and roads. Proposition No. 4 asks voters to renew a 3-mill tax for the Madison Parish Communications District, expected to raise $341,000 annually to maintain and operate the parish’s 911 system and pay dispatch personnel. Each renewal would extend for a 10-year period, beginning in 2027 and ending in 2036.
