The Madison Parish School Board approved the 2026–27 school calendar during its March 16 meeting after adding the item to the agenda at the start of the session.
Superintendent Charlie Butler said the calendar was selected by teachers through a vote and received support from a 90% majority.
Under the approved calendar, the first day of school for students is Aug. 7. The last day for students is May 21, with the teacher last day set for May 25. Senior graduation is scheduled for May 8, and the senior last day is April 30.
Report card pickup days are scheduled for Oct. 22 and Jan. 21, both set as half days for students. Students will return from winter break on Jan. 4.
Holiday and break periods include Labor Day on Sept. 7, fall break from Oct. 12-16, election day closure on Nov. 3, Veterans Day on Nov. 11, and Thanksgiving break from Nov. 23-27. Winter break is scheduled from Dec. 21 through Jan. 1. Martin Luther King Jr. Day is Jan. 18.
Mardi Gras break is scheduled for Feb. 8-9, followed by Presidents Day on Feb. 15. Easter break will take place from March 22-25, followed by spring break from March 26-31. Memorial Day is May 31.
Teachers will return for professional development from Aug. 3-6. Additional non-student days are scheduled for Sept. 8 and Jan. 19.
