Madison Parish School District recorded one of the lowest district performance scores in Louisiana for 2025, according to state data released this year, but the parish’s high school was listed among the top improving high schools statewide.
Madison Parish posted a district performance score of about 54.8, placing it above only the City of Baker School District. Baker, located in East Baton Rouge Parish, reported a score of about 52.6.
Madison Parish’s score increased less than one point from 2024 to 2025. The district remained below the state score of about 80.9 and below all surrounding parishes. East Carroll, Franklin, Richland and Tensas each reported scores between about 68 and 73.
District data showed an F in the assessment index and a B in the progress index. Growth scores in surrounding parishes were also in the high 70s and low 80s. Madison Parish’s assessment index was lower than surrounding parishes, which ranged from the high 20s to the mid-40s.
School-level results showed an increase at Madison High School and declines at the lower grades. Madison High posted a school performance score of about 78, up from about 66 the previous year. Wright Elementary School and Madison Middle School posted scores of about 34 and 44, down from 2024.
The Louisiana Department of Education listed Madison High School among the state’s top growing high schools for year-over-year gains. The school recorded an increase of 12.1 points, tying for eighth on the statewide list. Other schools on the list included Bolton Academy, Collegiate Baton Rouge, LaSalle High School, Lake Charles College Prep, Sophie B. Wright Institute of Academic Excellence, Delhi Charter School, the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts, Red River High School and Donaldsonville High School. The department stated that growth reflects dedication within the schools recognized.
Madison Parish reported an ACT index in the low 50s. Neighboring parishes reported ACT index scores ranging from the upper 30s to near 100. Madison Parish reported a graduation rate of about 82 percent. East Carroll, Franklin and Tensas posted graduation rates in the 90s, while Richland posted a rate in the low 80s.
Madison Parish recorded Interests and Opportunities scores in the 120 range at both the K–8 and high school levels. The diploma strength index was about 90, below most surrounding parishes, which ranged from the mid-90s to more than 100.
District data showed gains in Madison Parish’s overall score and at the high school. The district remained below surrounding parishes on the state’s main academic measures.
